The Mint Museum opened in 1971 in a building next to the head office of the Japan Mint , which was originally established by the Meiji government. The Japan Mint played an important role in the rise of modern industry and culture in Japan. Visitors to the Mint Museum can see a variety of both internationally and domestically collected coins and medals. The grounds are also crowded with visitors each spring when over 300 cherry trees are in bloom.
