It encompasses 6 square blocks and was created by the local government in 1871 as a way to keep laborers in Sapporo for the purpose of pioneering Hokkaido. Full of bright neon signs, this lively and exciting area is packed with many different businesses - including bars, restaurants, clubs, karaoke, pachinko parlors and adult entertainment. It is famous for Ramen Yokocho - an alley full of delicious noodle shops, as well as spectacular ice sculptures during the Sapporo Snow festival.
