The Clock tower in downtown Sapporo is a popular city landmark. Built in 1878 as a drill hall for the Agricultural College, it is not only one of the few surviving Western buildings, but it is the oldest standing building in Sapporo. While it was originally used for educational purposes, it now houses a museum about the Agricultural College and development of the city. Today, it is dwarfed by tall office buildings, but still continues to keep time and is a main feature on tours to Sapporo.
