The park was constructed as a heartfelt appeal for world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons. There are several important monuments and a ceremony is held every year on August 6th to remember the tragic event. The Peace Memorial Museum is also worth a visit as it contains exhibits outlining the events surrounding the blast, as well as graphic displays of the survivors and victims' experiences.
